They say revenge is best served cold....
But revenge is not a flex.
The worst thing next to being betrayed or offended by someone, is watching that person get off unscathed. No accountability or even remorse of how they've handled you. And you're left asking, "God, do you see this?"
Oftentimes when someone has hurt or betrayed us, our minds instantly go into defense mode, thinking of a master plan to get them to feel and experience the same pain that they inflicted upon us.
But revenge is not a flex.
I know having to watch the people that cheated on you, robbed you of your joy, move on in life seemingly blessed and prospering, like they don't have a care in the world, can bring about seething emotions that only those who've experienced the same thing could relate. But I promise, what you don't see, is God working behind the scenes.
A few months ago, this was my exact situation. I was heartbroken, blind-sighted, and felt betrayed beyond comprehension. And because of this pain, I loathed the idea that this person who mishandled my feelings so carelessly, got to move on and potentially end up hurting someone else without having to suffer any consequences. I remember being so angry, that I started contemplating taking matters into my own hands.
Well one day, in the midst of my pain, as I was sitting under the hair dryer, I picked up both my iPhone and iPad at the same time and noticed that BOTH devices were at 37% battery. I don't believe anything is ever a coincidence, so of course I started praying and asking God if there was a message behind that number. Sure enough, as I googled the biblical significance of the number 37, I landed upon the 37th Psalm written by King David. What I had been toiling with all melted away instantly as I read:
"Do not fret because of those who are evil or be envious of those who do wrong; for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away."
Whew. Listen, the whole chapter is fire! And I would highly recommend you go back and read the whole thing for yourself. Not only did this chapter say that evil doers will not prosper and God will handle them accordingly, but the righteous shall also SEE it come to pass.
If you’ve never been on the other end of God’s vindication, I can assure you, God packs a punch a lot harder than you ever will. If you’ve never seen someone have to repent for how they did you… trust me when I say, you WANT God to be the one to avenge and vindicate you.
So hear me, revenge is not a flex. But you know what is?
Your peace. Your joy. Your zest for life. Getting that pep in your step back. That’s the true flex. Give it to God. And let HIM act on your behalf. He's got you.
